The Alexandrina Library Service holds a collection of Local History materials and Family History research resources at Strathalbyn School Community Libary and Goolwa Customer Service Centre. Both Centres house their collections in a separate history room.
Some local history materials can be loaned and some are for inhouse use only.
Topics covered in the local history collection are 
- the Alexandrina Council area
- areas not within the Alexandrina Council District but close to the owning library (for example, Goolwa's Local History Room contains books about Victor Harbor, even though it is not part of the Alexandrina Council District.)
- written by a local author or
- fiction stories set in the local area
- Information about the River Murray
- Information about the Fleurieu Peninsula
- Information about Flinders and Baudin Explorations - in particular their "Encounter" off our local shores
