How to apply for positions with Council

All position with Alexandrina will need to be applied for in writing. In addition, applications will be accepted at any time, but it is generally best to apply direct to advertised positions. Council bases its recruitment of employees on merit, and the candidate who best meets the requirements of the position is the one who will be given preference for appointment to the position.

When applying for a position, it is important to prepare an application that demonstrates why you are the best person for the job and how your skills, knowledge and experience match the requirements of the position. As a result it is essential that you obtain a copy of the Position Information Document in order to prepare your application. This information will be available from Council's website or from the Human Resource department.

A full application must contain:

  • a brief covering letter
  • your resume; and
  • contact details of at least two referees.

On occasions, the job advertisement may also require applications to include a statement addressing the selection criteria.
