The Goolwa Regatta Yacht Club takes a page from colonial history but adds an exciting contemporary twist.
The Goolwa Regatta Week will culminate in ‘The Marina Hindmarsh Island Freshwater Classic’, the iconic Milang to Goolwa yacht race.
The event will echo Goolwa’s first Regatta 157 years ago, which was a grand event coinciding with the opening of the Goolwa-Port Elliott Railway in 1854, when hundreds of spectators watched rowers and yachties vie for a handsome prize of 17 pounds (thousands of dollars in today’s money).
The Goolwa Regatta Week will offer a community festival of riverside activities including wine appreciation, a fashion show and classic and vintage cars.
As part of the Goolwa Regatta Week leading up to the Milang to Goolwa Freshwater Classic, boats can compete in the Marina Challenge, a GRYC Twilight Race, the Dash for Cash as well as Vintage Boat Races, Dinghy Races, Sailability Races and Remote Control Boat Racing.
Hundreds of spectators, both locals and tourists, are expected to watch the Milang to Goolwa race along the route downstream to Goolwa. The race links the three lake and riverside towns of Milang, Clayton and Goolwa in a singular event and the whole course offers spectacular viewing both on and off the water.

Nomination forms for the race are available from The Race Committee at PO Box 321 Goolwa SA 5214 or from the club website at www.gryc.com.au
