Environmental Advisory Panel

Background and Establishment

In April 2014, Council endorsed the Environmental Action Plan 2014-2018 which included as an action the establishment of an Environmental Advisory Panel.  The Environmental Action Plan describes in detail how Council will deliver on the strategic environmental aspiration contained in the Community Strategic Plan 2014-2023, namely to "Thrive in Clean Green Futures".

The first Environmental Advisory Panel was established in September 2017.

The revised Terms of Reference were adopted in September 2019.

Purpose

The role of the Panel is to provide input and advice to Council regarding implementation of Council's Environmental Action Plan.  Environmental and sustainability matters to be addressed by the Panel may include water resource management; biodiversity conservation; climate change mitigation and adaption; carbon sequestration and regenerative agriculture; resource recovery and waste management; environmental education; and the reduction of Council's corporate footprint.

Membership

The Panel consists of two Elected Members and up to eight community representatives.  Positions are voluntary and members will be appointed for a two-year term.  It is likely that a Chairperson will be selected by Council from the successful candidates.  The Elected Members on the panel are Cr Karyn Bradford and Cr Melissa Rebbeck.
