Aged Care Transition

Changes to Federal and State funding for Aged Care

Alexandrina Council currently receives funding from Federal and State Government for the Community Connect Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) and South Australian Home and Community Care Services (SA HACC) programs respectively. The SA HACC program provides support to eligible residents under 65 years of age. The CHSP provides entry level support to eligible people over 65 years in five service areas:

  1. minor home modifications
  2. home maintenance
  3. domestic assistance (Strathalbyn area)
  4. transport
  5. social support.

The Commonwealth Government’s ‘Aged Care Reforms’ are changing the way aged care will be funded, structured and managed into the future. Alexandrina Council has reviewed the reform agenda and examined the potential impacts of the Federal Government changes so as to determine the best way forward for the community we represent.

As a result, Council’s CHSP services will conclude on 30 June 2021 and transition to new providers as confirmed by the Department of Health. Council's Community Connect services for SA HACC will conclude on 31 January 2021. All our Community Connect services will continue to be available until these dates, with social support services continuing from 1 July 2021, albeit in a revised format.

Council has commenced a substantial transition plan to ensure relevant service providers are active in the region and that clients are carefully, and sensitively, moved to alternate providers, while assessing any gaps that may occur.

Social support groups, individual social support and transport services will continue in their current format until the above dates.  We recognise the value of these services to our community and, this will be given due consideration as we determine the best way to continue to support the community.

We are investigating the option for domestic assistance and home maintenance services to be delivered by alternate local providers over the coming 12 months. This decision was made to support a staged transition out of service delivery and will have minimal impact on people currently receiving these services.

Alexandrina Council are committed to supporting our community through this transition period and will ensure our consumers are aligned with alternate service providers following this significant change in the aged care sector.
