The South Australian Wooden Boat Festival Committee was established to plan, organise and execute the conduct of the South Australian Wooden Boat Festival (SAWBF) in accordance with Council rules and regulations and to provide advice to the Wharf Board on matters relevant to the SAWBF.

The Objectives of the South Australian Wooden Boat Festival Committee are:

  • To plan, organise and execute the conduct of the South Australian Wooden Boat Festival (SAWBF);
  • To promote the preservation, ownership and pleasure of wooden boats;
  • To promote the SAWBF as a major event in Australia and, in particular, engage the communities along the River Murray and its tributaries to participate and benefit from the event;
  • To promote the region and increase visitation for the best financial outcome, engaging the broader community in conjunction with the boating community;
  • To recognise the cultural significance of the Ngarrindjeri peoples and other indigenous communities along the river;
  • To foster and promote arts and culture associated with the river and its communities;
  • To advocate for and raise the profile of the SAWBF;
  • To increase networks and linkages between people, communities, businesses, groups and organisations;
  • To generate funds to fulfil the above objectives and to explore further commercial opportunities;
  • To comply with and, where appropriate, to seek clarification with respect to Council policies and processes relevant to the objectives listed above.
