Alexandrina’s Elf and Santa Hat competition

Alexandrina Council invites you and your family to head to your nearest Santa and Elf Neon Hats – placed throughout the region – during December for your chance to win a family prize.

Mayor's Best Dressed Shop Window Competition

Alexandrina’s shop windows will shine at night as they create eye catching fairy light displays that highlight the joyous spirit of the festive season. Visit the townships to see the displays. Which one will be the Mayor’s favourite?

If you're a business, create a display that imbues the joyous spirit of the festive season and you can win a voucher to spend at a business in Alexandrina.  For further details, enquiries can be directed to the Council's Events Co-ordinator.

Winners will be announced on Council website and social media on Wednesday, 22 December.


Friday, 3 December – Mount Compass

Christmas Market and Carols

The Mount Compass Christmas Market promotes local stores and produce – head along to pick up some wonderful Christmas gifts.

Market: 5–9 pm, Main Street, Victor Harbor Road
Carols: 7pm at the Wetlands

Friday, 10 December – Strathalbyn

Strathalbyn Celebrates Christmas

Celebrate Christmas in Strathalbyn at the Showgrounds!

Activities include:

  • interactive Christmas crafts in the Show Hall for both adults and children
  • movie in the Show Hall
  • carol singers
  • live music provided by the Strathalbyn Concert Band, Easter Fleurieu School Band, Harmummies, Kick the Dog, brass band and a range of solo singers
  • model train demonstration
  • Little Athletics interactive Christmas games
  • whip cracking demonstration
  • Rotary Club giveaways and activities

Food and drink will be available:

  • Lions Club – steak sandwiches and coffee
  • Soccer Club – hot donuts
  • Oskar & Co food truck – hot chips, hamburgers, tacos and more.

Sunday, 12 December – Goolwa

Christmas Concert

The Rotary Club of Goolwa is proud to present the Goolwa Christmas Concert 2021, supported by Goolwa Lions, combined Churches, and Alexandrina Council.

Enjoy carols, singing and entertainment from a cast of over 100 local entertainers, with the support of the Goolwa Concert Band.

Bring your own seats or picnic rug, as well as refreshments for the night. Disability access, parking, and special needs area available.

Two sessions: 3.00 pm and 6.30 pm
Goolwa Oval Precinct, on Goyder Street, Goolwa.

Off the Bridge New Year’s Eve Fireworks

Imagine a sky full of dazzling colour and magical lights, bringing the Goolwa wharf precinct to life.

Off the Bridge Fireworks are expected to go ahead in 2021 pending approval from SA Health.

Please note that the Hindmarsh Island Bridge will therefore be closed as follows:

Friday 31 December 2021 for fireworks

  • Single lane closure 10.30pm - 11:15pm
  • Full closure  11:15pm to approximately 12:45am (dependent on safe access)
  • Footpath closure 10.30pm - 12:45am (dependent on safe access)
