Eligibility criteria has changed. If you live or work in the Alexandrina Council LGA (local government area), you may be eligible to receive the free Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) vaccine.
JEV is spread to humans through mosquito bites. Many people don't experience any symptoms or illness from this serious disease.

Free JEV vaccination is available for the following eligible groups:
- People aged 2 months and older who have a primary residence in an eligible Local Government Area (LGA) AND spend at least 4 hours per day outdoors most days.
- People aged 2 months and older who have a secondary residence affected by the River Murray flood in an eligible postcode AND spend at least 4 hours per day outdoors most days.
- People employed in a role located in an eligible postcode below AND spend at least 4 hours per day outdoors as part of their
- occupation most days.
Both the live and unactivated vaccine are offered at these clinics.
JEspect is an unactivated vaccine and can be given to those who cannot have the live vaccine, including:
- infants from 2 months to less than 9 months
- people who are immunocompromised
- women who are pregnant or breastfeeding
