Shared Skills in Strathalbyn is a dynamic youth programme of the Alexandrina Council for young people studying Year 5 and upwards living in the Strathalbyn and surrounding areas. Shared Skills in Strathalbyn commenced in November 2003 as a program that links older and retired members of the community with young children aged from Year 5 and upwards who reside in Strathalbyn and surrounding area.
The program provides children with the opportunity to learn new skills across a variety of activities whilst building positive relationships with volunteer leaders who are willing to share their knowledge and skills in their chosen field. Activities offered so far have included woodwork, mosaic art, off street art, silk painting, hairdressing, archery, jewellery making, yoga, self defence and chocolate making.
The Shared Skills in Strathalbyn program runs during school terms only and brochures promoting the program are distributed to students and local schools and are available at the Strathalbyn and Goolwa Council offices and libraries.
