Alexandrina support Anti-Poverty Food Drive

Over 1,500 items collected

Alexandrina Council’s annual Anti-Poverty Week Food Drive has been embraced by the community, who have generously supported the cause again in 2018. Over 1,500 non-perishable items were kindly donated through the various collection points scattered around the region.

Council partnered with community organisations, service clubs, community groups, local schools, churches and local businesses to bring the food drive into fruition, with items collected being distributed to a number of community organisations and school breakfast clubs to help support people in need within the Alexandrina Region.

Anti-Poverty Week ran from 14-20 October this year and encouraged all Australians to take part in activities which highlight or overcome issues of poverty and hardship. It is a startling statistic that over one million Australian are affected by poverty and hardship, including within Alexandrina.

Donations of non-perishable goods can be made at any time of the year by contacting one of the emergency relief centres in our region.
