Alexandrina tourism shines on the State stage
The Alexandrina region proudly stood in the spotlight at the 2025 South Australian Tourism Awards on Friday 7 November, with a series of achievements that showcase the strength and diversity of our local tourism sector.
Hall of Fame honours for local icons
One of our region’s most celebrated tourism operators – Spirit of the Coorong and Big Duck Boat Tours – was inducted into the prestigious Tourism Hall of Fame after winning Gold for three consecutive years in two categories:
- The Big Duck Boat Tours – Ecotourism
- Spirit of the Coorong – Tour & Transport Operators
This achievement is a testament to their unwavering commitment to sustainable, nature-based tourism and unforgettable visitor experiences. From whale, seal and dolphin encounters off the Fleurieu coast to immersive cruises through the Coorong National Park, these operators have become synonymous with world-class adventure and environmental stewardship.
Joel Hirsch, General Manager across both brands, summed it up perfectly:
“We are absolutely thrilled. This is a win for our whole team — from our crew on the water to our staff behind the scenes. These awards are not just about trophies; they’re about what we stand for: regenerative tourism, community partnerships, environmental care and creating joy for every single guest.”
Silver for South Australian Wooden Boat Festival
We’re delighted to share that the South Australian Wooden Boat Festival 2025, hosted by Alexandrina Council in collaboration with the South Australian Wooden Boat Festival Committee and Volunteers, was awarded Silver in the Festivals and Events category. This recognition celebrates the spirit of our river communities and the living heritage of wooden boats, brought to life through a vibrant event that draws thousands to the banks of the River Murray. We can’t wait to welcome festival goers back again in April 2027 for the 20th South Australian Wooden Boat Festival – a milestone celebration that promises to be our biggest and best yet.
Silver for The Foodbuilder
We also congratulate The Foodbuilder, as a silver medallist in this year’s awards. The Foodbuilder’s innovative approach to food and storytelling is helping shape Alexandrina’s reputation as a destination for culinary creativity.
These accolades reflect the passion, professionalism and collaborative spirit that define tourism in Alexandrina. We’re proud to stand alongside these operators and events as we continue to grow and celebrate our region’s unique offerings.
