When you have received your confirmation from the Department of Home Affairs approving your Australian Citizenship, your local or nominated Council will be contacted by the Department to make arrangements for the presentation of your Citizenship Certificate.

Individuals will be contacted directly and invited to attend a Citizenship Ceremony.  There is no need to contact the Department or your local  council about your ceremony.

Alexandrina Council conducts conferral ceremonies for approved Australian Citizenship applicants residing in the Council area several times throughout the year and on Australia Day.

These ceremonies must comply with current state guidelines and meet COVID-Safe requirements.

The Australian Citizenship Ceremony is a formal occasion of approximately 30 minutes, depending on the number of conferees.

Citizenship conferees are invited to attend together with friends and family.

His Worship the Mayor, Keith Parkes, will normally conduct the ceremony.

During the ceremony you will be asked to make the Australian Citizenship Pledge and be presented with your Australian Citizenship Certificate.

If for any reason you do not wish to attend a public ceremony please contact Council’s Executive Assistant to the Mayor and Council Members on 8555 7000 to discuss your requirements.
