The Project

Alexandrina Council and the Strathalbyn community are committed to revitalising the Town Centre and have worked together to develop an integrated Master Plan with eight distinct stages.

With eight stages identified, the $10.5 million project investment incorporates $3.85M from the State Government’s Local Government Infrastructure Partnership Program to complete the remaining stages of the Town Centre Revitalisation Project including:

  • Stage 1 - Sunter Street carparks, Saint Andrews Church, Albyn Terrace and Rankine Street Intersection
  • Stage 2 - Albyn Terrace, Dawson Street, and Commercial Road Intersection
  • Stage 3 - Upgrade High Street Precinct
  • Stage 4 - Upgrade Dawson Street Precinct
  • Stage 5 - Upgrade Swale Street Link
  • Stage 6 - Upgrade Albyn Terrace Precinct
  • Stage 7 – Town Centre Tourism Parking
  • Stage 8 - Upgrade of the Strathalbyn Town Hall.

The eight stages will revitalise a wealth of the Town Centre's most popular areas to provide new plantings, trees, furniture and attractive landscaping with a vision of harmonising the town’s infrastructure, promoting a sense of place and providing ample wayfinding for visitors.

We are committed to the ongoing development and improvement of our community, and we would like to express our gratitude to the State Government for their support through the Local Government Infrastructure Partnership Program. We would also like to extend our appreciation to the residents, businesses, and visitors of Strathalbyn for their patience and cooperation during the construction period.

Information and updates

Stages 1 to 7 - Streetscape Upgrades

Council is excited to announce the completion of Stages 1 to 7 of the Strathalbyn Town Centre Revitalisation Project with streetscape upgrades along High Street, Sunter Street, Swale Street, and Dawson Street. These upgrades bring multiple benefits to our community, creating a more vibrant, pedestrian-friendly environment.

The newly paved intersections, additional pedestrian access points, and improved footpath paving enhance connectivity and make navigation easier and safer for residents and visitors. The added lighting increases visibility, ensuring a secure environment during evening hours. The introduction of street trees and garden beds adds natural beauty, fostering community pride and environmental sustainability.

Update - All stages of the streetscape upgrades in High Street, Sunter Street and Dawson Street are complete. Remediation works occurred at the intersections along High Street in February 2024.
