Immunisation Program

Alexandrina Council continues to offer free childhood immunisations aligned to the National Immunisation and State Immunisation schedules. Adult immunisation is also available with a fee based on the price of the vaccine; please ensure that these vaccines are pre-ordered.

This service is operated by the City of Onkaparinga on behalf of Alexandrina Council.  They can be contacted by phone 8384 0666, via email immunisation@onkaparinga.sa.gov.au or by visiting their website for further information.

Bookings Preferred

Appointments are now available for Alexandrina Clinics. Bookings will be prioritised however drop-in appointments will still be accommodated.

IMPORTANT: If your child has missed multiple scheduled vaccinations, a catch-up plan may need to be developed in advance.  Please contact the immunisation team prior to booking an appointment on (08) 8384 0666 or immunisation@onkaparinga.sa.gov.au

Please note when completing the online booking form, the appointment must be made in the name of the person being vaccinated and not the caregiver.

Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) vaccine

Free JEV vaccination is available for the following eligible groups:

* People aged 2 months and older who have a primary residence in an eligible Local Government Area (LGA) ie Alexandrina Council AND spend at least 4 hours per day outdoors most days.

* People aged 2 months and older who have a secondary residence affected by the River Murray flood in an eligible postcode AND spend at least 4 hours per day outdoors most days.

* People employed in a role located in an eligible postcode below AND spend at least 4 hours per day outdoors as part of their occupation most days.

Meningococcal Updates

South Australian Meningococcal B Immunisation Program

The State Government has announced the introduction of the Meningococcal B vaccine to the schedule from the 1 October 2018, for children under the age of 1 year, and a catch-up program, to run until the end of 2019, for children under 4 years of age.  These immunisations are available now from both Alexandrina Clinics.

The Meningococcal B vaccine will be included in the school based immunisation program from 2019 for high school students in year 10 and a catch-up program for students in year 11.

In addition, the vaccine will also be available as a catch-up program for 17-19 year olds through GP's or Alexandrina clinics from February 2019.

Meningococcal ACWY Immunisation Program

From 2019, the Meningococcal ACWY vaccine will be available as part of the school based immunisation program for year 10 students and a catch-up program for students up to the age of 19 years old through GP's or council clinics.

Meningococcal ACWY and Meningococcal B Vaccines available for purchase

Meningococcal B and ACWY Vaccine are also available for private sale at clinics for those that are not eligible for the above program.  These vaccines will need to be pre-ordered to ensure availability.

Clinic Time: 10:30am - 12:00pm

Strathalbyn Clinic

Location: Alexandrina Council Library, Colman Terrace, Strathalbyn

Clinic Time: 2:00pm - 3:35pm

Please note that clinics will not operate on days that are assessed as Catastrophic Fire Danger days.

Bookings

Arrive within the scheduled times, bringing Medicare card and Children's Immunisation book (blue book).

Pre ordering of non-scheduled vaccines are required prior to clinic; for more information about this and to order please contact the City of Onkaparinga Customer Service team on 8384 0666.

Schools

The school immunisation program is also provided by the City of Onkaparinga to the schools within Alexandrina Council.  The schools that will be serviced are:

  • Goolwa Secondary College
  • Eastern Fleurieu - Strathalbyn 7-12 campus
  • Tyndale Christian College (formerly Murraylands) - Strathalbyn
