Rural Address signs are used to help identify and locate rural properties. Typically, they are installed on a post near the end of each resident’s driveway. They are especially useful for emergency response personnel such as ambulance, fire and police, as it helps them to locate your property quickly during an emergency.
Further information on rural property addressing, visit the SA.GOV.AU website.
If you own a rural property and needing to order signage, please apply by completing the Rural Property Address Application Form listed below.
Please Note: You must attach an aerial map of your property and highlight the access points i.e. roads and driveway.
Your application will then be reviewed by the Revenue Team for further action.

Frequently asked questions
Rural property signs are a number measured in distance from a data point. Property numbers are worked out based on the distance from the start of the road to the entrance of the property. That distance - in metres - is divided by ten. Even numbers are on the right and odd numbers are on the left. For example, the entrance to a property 5,080 metres from the start of the road on the right-hand side becomes number 508. The start of the road is determined as the fastest and safest road accessed from the nearest major road or town. Rural road maps define the name, the start point and direction of every rural road in the state.
The cost of the first sign issued is covered by council.
After the initial sign is issued, the sign becomes the responsibility of the owner, and the replacement cost is their responsibility. To order a replacement, contact:
