Strengthening Agribusiness Connections at Milang

On Wednesday 19 November, Council’s Economic Development team was delighted to attend and support the Milang Agricultural Bureau’s 'Small Family Business Info Night' at Lake Plains Hall.

The event brought together many local farmers and industry representatives to explore the challenges facing small businesses in our region and highlight practical resources and strategies to drive positive change.

Agribusiness is central to Alexandrina's economy. Of the 2,405 businesses in Alexandrina, 546 are in the agricultural, forestry or fishing sector, making it the largest industry by business count. The sector employs more than 1000 people and generates $428 million annual output for the region (REMPLAN, June 2024).

We value our work with local industry groups, and events like this help us understand local business needs and strengthen relationships that deliver excellent outcomes.

Special thanks to Alyssa Rodgers for convening the event, Chris Littlejohn (Secretary, Milang Ag Bureau and member of Council’s Agricultural Advisory Group) and Neil Harvey (President, Milang Ag Bureau) for hosting, and to guest speakers Amanda Hunt (Office for Small and Family Business) and Sarah Letinic (SA Small Business Commissioner’s Office) for sharing valuable insights.

We were proud to support this event alongside the Office for Small and Family Business, the SA Small Business Commissioner’s Office, and Langhorne Creek Grape & Wine.
