Free Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Electric vehicles (EVs) create less air and noise pollution, and when powered by renewable energy, produce less climate altering greenhouse gases. As the proportion of South Australia’s electricity generation from renewable sources increases, driving electric vehicles will mean households and businesses can contribute to a cleaner, greener townships.

Alexandrina Council is ready for this emerging technology and has a number of public Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Stations.

The RDA is working with the State Government on a new network of charging stations across the State, see the broader strategy on the State Government's website at Energy & Mining.

There are five electric vehicle charging points located in the Alexandrina region available for public use. You’ll find them at:

  • Goolwa Visitors Information centre, 1 Cutting Road, Goolwa – 2 x 7kW Type 1 (J1772) socket and 1 x 7kW Type 2 (Mennekes / Tesla 3 & Y) socket
  • Goolwa Beach Carpark, Beach Road, Goolwa - 3 x 7kW Type 2 (Mennekes / Tesla 3 & Y) socket
  • Strathalbyn Visitors Information centre, 20 South Terrace, Strathalbyn - 1 x 7kW Type 1 (J1772) socket
  • Strathalbyn Railway Carpark, entrance off Parker Avenue adjacent South Terrace - 2 x 7kW Type 2 (Mennekes / Tesla 3 & Y) socket

Fuel Efficiency Joint Statement

Mayor Keith Parkes on behalf of Alexandrina Council and our community is advocating and joining the conversation to fast-track affordable Electric Vehicles in Australia.

Transport is a significant source of emissions at all levels of government and is the third highest source of emissions nationally behind electricity and stationary energy.

The fuel efficiency joint statement was developed and released in April 2023 in partnership with Cities Power Partnership and many other local councils. The campaign's mission is to prompt the Federal Government to support our access to electric vehicles by legislating strong fuel efficiency standards.

The Cities Power Partnership is a program developed by the Climate Council that partners with a network of local councils to move towards a zero emissions future.

Following the Joint Statement, the Federal Government released the National Electric Vehicle Strategy in April 2023. The Strategy's focus is to increase the uptake of EV's to reduce our emissions and improve the wellbeing of Australians. To view the strategy, click here.
