Code Amendments

We have the best region is South Australia. We have beaches, the river, lakes, wines regions, arts, culture, history and prime agricultural land.

We can understand it would be natural for people to want to move to such a region, but it is important to Alexandrina Council that the growth that will occur happens responsibly and sustainably.

On Monday 8 May 2023, the Minister revealed plans to release 2,500 new residential allotments in Goolwa North.

Council is aware that two (2) ‘Developer Initiated Code Amendments’ had been submitted within the Goolwa North area.

Until now neither of these amendments have proceeded to the compulsory Community Consultation phase and therefore Council has not yet had an opportunity to review and comment on the proposed Code Amendments prior to this announcement being made.

A Code Amendment of this scale requires extensive research and investigations, particularly in relation to infrastructure such as roads, water, wastewater, and economic impacts. Council recognises the importance of growth but is committed to ensuring that it is well managed and meets the needs of a growing and changing population. Any proposed Code Amendments to Goolwa North will be assessed with the appropriate level of scrutiny to ensure they are in the best interest of the community.

We want to clarify that these proposed Code Amendments were not initiated by the Council and that this announcement marks the start of a process of investigation and community consultation.

Our Strategic Development team is now thoroughly reviewing the proposed amendments. Their recommendations will be presented to the Council in due course, ensuring that any decisions made are based on careful research and investigation.
