Temporary road closures and speed restrictions may be approved where closing a road or speed restriction, contributes to the vibrancy and success of an event.
The Alexandrina Council assesses each request carefully, balancing event needs with the requirements of traffic, local businesses, and residents. Such closures are typically granted for:
- Events and festivals
- Cycling or running events
- Street parties
- Marches or parades
In order to conduct your temporary road closure or speed restriction, you will be required to engage the services of a Traffic Management Contractor to prepare compliant Traffic Management Plans and manage and implement the road closures or speed restrictions. All costs associated with this are at the cost of the Event Organiser.

Application Process
All event organisers are eligible to apply for a temporary road closure as a part of their event. Applications for road closures are assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Supporting documentation should be provided with the application where available; however, some documents may be submitted at a later stage of the assessment process. All required documentation must be provided to Council’s satisfaction prior to the approval of a road restriction.

Public Consultation
Public Consultation for road closures is a crucial process to ensure that the community is informed and has a chance to voice their concerns. The outcomes of the public consultation process will determine whether the event can be approved or otherwise.
