Chiton Rocks Toilet Upgrade

Work will start in late February to upgrade the public toilets behind the Chiton Rocks Surf Life Saving Club at Hindmarsh Esplanade, Hayborough.
This project is an action from our Public Toilet Management Plan 2024–2034 and is being funded in the 2025/26 Annual Community Plan. Weather permitting, the works are expected to be finished by June 2026.
The new toilets will comply with current disability access standards and building codes. The design includes accessible, gender-neutral and ambulant toilets, baby change facilities, and energy-efficient appliances. Sustainable building materials will be used.
The new toilet will have a shower wash-down area, a front veranda, a bench seat, solar power and battery systems, stainless fixtures, basins and troughs, feature lighting and hand dryers, security lighting and sensors, and honed concrete floors.
The existing 2016 mural by artist Barbary O'Brien at the Chiton Rocks facility will be retained and incorporated into the new design.
Landscaping with native plants will be established along with designated car parks.
Temporary portable toilets will be installed in the nearby area during construction.
