Public Litter Bins

Alexandrina Council is committed to keeping our public spaces clean, safe, and enjoyable through responsible public waste management. The Public Waste Management Policy guides how public litter bins are placed and serviced across key areas such as town centres, parks, foreshore areas, and community precincts.

Public litter bins are serviced regularly by Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority, with collection frequencies based on location and seasonal demand to ensure cleanliness and reduce environmental impact.

The key principles driving Council’s approach to public waste management are to:

• Reduce waste and litter in public spaces
• Promote the understanding that the best recycling happens at home
• Encourage the community to take their waste home for recycling where possible
• Ensure public litter bins are used only for waste generated in public spaces, not for household or commercial waste

By working together, we can maintain cleaner, more sustainable public environments for everyone to enjoy.

It is an expectation that visitors and residents take home their waste and separate that waste appropriately, as public litter bins may not always be available when required.
