Walking the Trail together

Walking the trail together: Sharing stories of Country in Langhorne Creek

Members of the Langhorne Creek Discovery Trail Project Partnership Group caught up recently for a walk along the proposed trail route, bringing different perspectives to a shared vision for the project.

Mervyn Kartinyeri from the Ngarrindjeri Aboriginal Corporation joined Lian Jaensch of Langhorne Creek Grape and Wine, and Tom Keelan, LCGWA Executive Committee Chair, to explore the planned route on foot and discuss how the Trail might tell local Indigenous stories.

The walk provided a valuable opportunity to talk through the layers of stories that define Langhorne Creek, including its cultural heritage, landscape, and the region’s unique relationship to water.

A key focus was the Ngarrindjeri perspective and starting to explore how First Nations stories and histories might be respectfully and meaningfully reflected along the Trail. These early conversations will help to shape how Indigenous storytelling can be a standout feature of the visitor experience. There is a rich body of Ngarrindjeri stories and cultural knowledge that could be shared.
