Did you know Goolwa has a designated jet ski area?

What is a Personal Water Craft (PWC)?

A personal watercraft (PWC), also commonly known as a jet ski, is a vessel with a motor that has a fully enclosed hull. It is operated by a person who either sits, stands or kneels on it.

They must be registered for use in South Australia.

Rules around operating a PWC can be found at www.sa.gov.au/topics/boating-and-marine

Where can I ride a PWC in Goolwa?

Currently a PWC can be operated on the River Murray and at Goolwa Beach, adhering to SA Government laws on operating watercraft in both open and closed waters.

Where is the designated jet ski area in Goolwa?

The designated jet ski area in Goolwa is located along the stretch of Barrage Road towards Beacon 19, approximately 300m before the Goolwa Barrage carpark.

Isn’t there a business at this location?

Public jet ski use of this area has always been welcomed by Alexandrina Council. Previously, a portion of this site was set aside for commercial purposes however the area has now been re-opened for unrestricted public access.

What facilities are currently at the designated jet ski area?

There are currently car parking spaces, toilets and a small beach from which to launch a PWC. Council contractors have recently undertaken clean-up activities at the site including fence removal, mowing and tree trimming.

Are the toilets accessible?

You can view pictures of the toilets here.

What are the plans for the site?

Alexandrina Council aims to establish and promote this area, on both sides of Barrage Road, as a ‘built for purpose’ designated jet ski area. We would like to see this area grow into a family-friendly, practical and pleasant area for PWC users to base themselves  for a fun day on the water.
