Construction of the new Strathalbyn Woodshed was completed in January 2018. It was officially opened in March 2018.

Council contributed $305,000 and oversaw the construction of this project to deliver an improved ‘fit for purpose’ community space. Local contractors were engaged to construct the new woodshed.

The Strathalbyn Woodshed has the capacity to serve up to 30 people per session. It also has the opportunity to be open more frequently during the day. Evening sessions are also possible as a result of the relocation. In its previous location, the Woodshed was required to close at noon due to noise restrictions associated with it being in a residential area.

The larger work areas have allowed for the installation of extra woodworking equipment that was previously in storage at various locations, and for much needed extra workbench space. An upgrade of dust collection facilities also improves the working environment.

The new facility is located behind the Strathalbyn Depot on Forrest Road, adjacent to the Strathalbyn Scout Hall and replaces the existing facility behind the Strathalbyn Library.  Council approved the construction of a new Woodshed in July 2012 and approved the location in April 2014.
