Community Grants

The Alexandrina Council region is recognised as one of the most proactive and creative communities in South Australia.  Alexandrina Council values and recognises the role of community groups and organisations within the Council area, and endeavours to financially support a range of projects and activities that are seen to enhance quality of life, and deliver services to the community.

Each year Alexandrina Council makes funding available to our community under the Community Grants Program for (but not limited to) not-for-profit sporting, recreational, social, arts and other community groups and, in some instances, local individuals in the support of one-off activities, projects, festivals and events.  The purpose of the Community Grants Program is to encourage local groups to take a more active and visible role in the community and create opportunities for community participation.

2020-2021 Grant Program - Opening on Tuesday 14 July 2020

In 2020-2021, recognising the significant impacts COVID-19 continues to have on our local communities, Alexandrina Council will be offering two new grants to the community, in place of its usual Community Grants Program category structure.

Economic Development and Events Recovery Grant ($100,000) - Opening Soon

The primary objective of the Economic Development and Events Recovery grant program is to assist businesses to survive and recover from the negative impact caused by COVID-19 and associated restrictions.  This grant is an essential catalyst to support and empower the Alexandrina Council business community to enact change that will rebuild the local economic landscape.

Eligible entities will be able to apply for between $2,000 and $5,000 for new activities that will generate growth and new or larger events that attract visitors to the area.  Businesses may be supported to adapt to online trading, improve shopfront appeal or activate main streets in our townships.

Funding will be offered in two rounds. Round 1 applications will be accepted from 14 July 2020 to 10 August 2020 and Round 2 will open from mid-January to mid-February 2021.

COVID-19 Community Reactivation Grant ($37,000) - Opening Soon

The primary objective of the COVID-19 Community Reactivation is to support existing community groups that make a positive contribution to the wellbeing of our region and whom have been adversely affected by restrictions imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Recognising that the impacts vary widely, eligible groups will be able to apply for up to $1,000 to fund a wide range of activities that aim to counteract the negative impacts of the pandemic, including loss of income, increased social isolation and reduced community wellbeing.

The COVID-19 Community Reactivation Grant is a flexible funding program designed to provide assistance where it is most needed.  This grant can support groups to stay afloat and adapt while restrictions are still in place or take steps towards being operational again once restrictions have eased and group activities can resume.  Eligible requests include assistance with utilities payments, or community projects that aim to enhance quality of life by reducing social isolation and increasing community connectedness and wellbeing.

Applications will open from 14 July 2020 and will be assessed on an ongoing basis until funds are exhausted.

More information on both the Economic Development and Events Recovery Grant and COVID-19 Community Reactivation Grant will be made available here from early July.
