Council is committed to setting an emissions reduction target and playing our part at a local level to reduce global emissions.

For more information, please read our Environmental Action Plan and Climate Emergency Action Plan.

We have been measuring our emissions each year since 2015, but as our population has increased, so do our emissions. This means we continually work to reduce the carbon intensity of the services we provide as we grow. Hence, in 2020-21, in addition to setting an emissions reduction target, we installed 220kw of solar roof panels on Council libraries and depots in Goolwa and Strathalbyn. SA Power Networks will also replace streetlights over time with energy efficient LEDs.

Council’s largest electricity users are the Fleurieu Regional Aquatic Centre, streetlights, wastewater treatment and pumping, and our Administration and Library buildings. Hence, in 2020-21, in addition to setting an emissions reduction target, we installed of 220kw of solar roof panels on Council libraries and depots in Goolwa and Strathalbyn.
